Cogeneration, also known as CHP “Combined Heat and Power”, consists of the contemporary and combined production of electric energy and the useable heat emitted from a single energy source, carried out in a single integrated system.
The use of the same combustible for two different purposes allows for a more efficient use of primary energy, with subsequent economic savings (in addition to the environmental benefits in terms of emission reductions), especially in production processes where the consumption of heat and electric are simultaneous.  In these cases, they are able to reach a reduction in the utilization of  primary energy sources in the order of 40%.
TEP carries out an on-site energy audit for the client with the objective  to identify the best type of installation, and the combustible most suitable for use.

In addition to the more common co-generators fuelled by natural gas (that represents our standard solution) TEP proposes the installation of systems fuelled by vegetable oil, which not only guarantees a reduction in the overall consumption, but also allows the production of electric energy and heat from renewable sources, and therefore allows access to major incentives. For the management of such systems, TEP created a supply chain for “traceable” oils.
According to the chosen solution, TEP formalizes an offer of support to the client that covers the entire project, investing in the operation and sharing in the savings or the profits obtained by means of the new system. Specifically, the project can be activated according to either of these two typical contractual agreements:
  • 100% financing and management of the system by TEP
  • co-financing and joint-management  (TEP+client) of the system
According to the chosen solution, the client will have a benefit in terms of either bill savings or profit sharing proportional to the resources they intend to commit to the project.
Cogeneration is an ideal solution mainly for:
  • Energy-consuming industries (textile mills, food agriculture, paper mills, glassworks,      server farm, etc.) with simultaneous needs for electric energy and thermal (technological steam, hot water, diathermal oil, superheated water) or cold energy;
  • Hotels, wellness centers, sport centers equipped with a pool and spa;
  • Hospital complexes and clinics;
  • Large condominiums;
  • Small communities with remote heating.
